Germany`s best piston engined fighter

The Focke Wulf 190 was introduced into active service slowly, and was not meet in combat untill August 1941 . However , its debut was startling , and the new radial-engined fighter quickly showed itself to be superior to any British aircraft in service. The next major series to follow tha A mark was the FW 190D, in 1943. This was in fact a radically redesigned version , an inline Junkers Jumo engine replacing the radial BMW 801 . The new engine was cowled in the same type of nose as the earlier model , the radiator forming the annular nose of the aircraft ; but the Jumo was a longer engine , and thus the fuselage had to be extended . The ` long-nose ` D series was eventually developed in the highly-successful Ta 152.
