On October 5 th 1944 , the German Night Fighter arm suffered a heavy blow . Oberst Helmut Lent , Kommodore of .NJG 3 , and a wearer of the Diamonds , crashed at Paderborn while attempting to land his JU 88 C-6 . Lent was seriously injured and died on October 7th. .Killed with him were his radar operator Kubisch , Oberleutnant Kloss and war correspondent Leutnant Kark . |
